THUMB FUN


THUMB PRINTS
You will need a washable ink pad and some paper.

  • Show your toddler how to press his thumb into the ink pad, then have press his thumb onto a piece of paper.
  • Continue with several thumb prints.
  • Toddler love it when you turn their thumb prints into bugs by adding legs using a fine line black marker.
     

THUMB MOVEMENTS

  • Show your toddler how to make different movements with her thumb.
  • Can she tap her thumb?  Use her thumb to point?  Make circles in the air with her thumb?
  • Teach your child to make a “thumbs up” signal.

 
THUMB EXERCISES

  • Give commands to your toddler to do with his thumb.
  • Such as, “thumbs up”, “thumbs down” or “thumbs around and around”.
     

THUMB PUPPETS

  • Using a black (washable) marking pen, make a face on each of your child’s thumbs.
  • Encourage him to have one thumb talk to the other thumb.

(Have child hold thumbs behind her back.)

Here I am!  Here I am!
(Have child bring both thumbs out)

How are you today, sir?                                                        
(Have child bend one thumb up and down)

Very well, I thank you.
(Have child bend the other thumb up and down)

Run away!                                                                   
(One thumb hides behind her back)

Run away!                                                                    
(Hide other thumb behind back)
 

FEE, FIE, FOE, FUM

Fee, fie, foe, fum, where, oh where, is my thumb?
(Hide thumb in hand)

Fee, fie, foe, fam, see it hiding in my hand!                         
(Open hand to show thumb inside)
