RELAXING FUN

Provide your toddler with plenty of tension-reducing, tactile experiences this holiday season.  Fill a toddler-sized container (such as a plastic bathtub for infants, a plastic dishpan or large plastic box) with any of the following items for easy, relaxing fun.  (Be sure your child is reminded to keep these items out of his mouth.)

GOOP  -  Your toddler will love to sink his hands into this mixture.

  • Mix two parts cornstarch with one part water in each container.
  • Stir until “goopy”.
  • If desired, add several drops of food coloring.
  • Be sure to set out a pan of soapy water and some towels for cleanup.

CORN MEAL – Great for filling and pouring.

  • Partially fill a container with corn meal.
  • Add a spoon, some measuring cups and other small toys for your child to play with.

DRIED RICE

  • Partially fill a container with dried rice.
  • Put in spoons, measuring cups and other small toys for your child to play with in the rice.

WARM SOAPY WATER

  • Pour some warm water into the containers and add some soap.
  • Use your hands or an egg beater to whip up some bubbles.
  • Put wash cloths and small plastic dishes in the water if desired.
  • Children could also wash small plastic toys.
