SHAPE ART

PAINTING SHAPES
Cut paper into a large geometric shape (circle, square, triangle or rectangle) and pin paper on painting easel.
Have your child wear a painting shirt and encourage him to paint the shape.

PAINTING SHAPES (2)
Place a large sheet of paper on a painting easel and let your child paint as she wishes on the paper.
When the paint is dry, cut the paper into a large shape.

GLUING SHAPES
Cut simple geometric shapes out of colored paper (approx. 2” wide).
Set out the shapes.
Give your child a paper plate with glue spread across the middle of the plate.
Have your child place an assortment of shapes on the glue.
Let dry.
Alternative: You could also let your child place the shapes onto a piece of self-stick paper.

PLAY DOUGH SHAPES
Roll out some play dough with a rolling pin.
Give your child a shape cookie cutter.
Encourage your child to make shape impressions on the play dough.

SURPRISE SHAPES
Ahead of time, draw simple shapes onto white paper with a white crayon.
Give the papers to your child.
Have your child paint across the paper with a paint wash (half paint/half water).
Discuss with your child the name of the shape that magically appears on his paper.

SHAPE STICKS
Set out some small craft sticks for your child to arrange in different ways.
Show your child how to make squares and triangles from the sticks.
