HEART STENCILS
Make stencils by using a craft knife to
cut heart-shaped holes out of cardboard squares. Tape
the stencils on top of white paper and let your children
sponge-paint over them to fill in the holes. When the
paint has dried, remove the stencils to reveal the sponge-painted
hearts.

HEART COLLAGES
Cut heart shapes out of such materials as construction
paper, tissue paper, gift-wrap, wallpaper, cellophane,
fabric, and foil. Invite your children to choose hearts
and arrange them on paper any way they wish. Have them
glue the hearts in place when they are satisfied with
their arrangements.

MENDING BROKEN HEARTS
| Cut five heart shapes out
of heavy paper. Cut each heart in half in a unique way,
using zigzag cuts, curvy cuts, and so forth. Number the
left-hand pieces of the hearts from 1 to 5 and draw matching
numbers of dots on the right-hand pieces. Then mix up
the pieces and let your children put them back together
to form whole hearts. |
HEART
MAGNETS
From poster board, cut out a number of small heart shapes
in three colors, such as red, yellow, and blue. Attach
a small magnet to the back of each heart shape. Let your
children sort the hearts by color on a magnetic surface
and then count them. Or have them use the hearts to create
patterns (red, blue, yellow; red, blue, yellow; and so
on). |
PLAYING-CARD HEARTS
Use unwanted decks of playing cards for these games.
 Mix
up the heart cards from two decks. Let your children search
for the matching pairs.
Cut
several heart cards into puzzle pieces for the children
to put back together.
Place
a box on the floor. Invite the children to try tossing
heart cards into it. |
OUR AMAZING HEARTS
Display pictures of the human heart and
explain to your children how it works. If possible, use
a stethoscope to listen to one another's heartbeats. Discover
how heartbeat rates change by listening before and after
doing exercises, such as running or jumping.

SNACKTIME "SWEET HEARTS"
Make
red finger gelatin and cut out jiggly hearts with a cookie
cutter.
Bake
heart-shaped cookies to decorate with frosting and sprinkles.
