FROG FUN

GREEN IS FOR FROGS
Let your children do one or more of these activities.
Make frog sculptures using green clay or play dough.
Hop hands like frogs while making green finger paintings.
Use green crayons, markers, or paint to create frog pictures.

FROGGY PUPPETS
Show your children how to use 3 ½-inch circles cut from green paper to make frog puppets. Fold a circle in half to make a frog's head, with the open part forming the frog's mouth. Glue yellow and black circles for eyes onto the top of the head, and tape a piece of red curling ribbon inside the mouth for a tongue. Then glue green paper strips, folded accordion style, to the back of the frog's head for legs. To work the puppet, hold it by the fold and pinch the mouth open and closed.

FROGS ON LILY PADS

Cut five lily pad shapes out of green paper or felt and number them from 1 to 5. Set out fifteen green pompoms for frogs. Let your children take turns naming the numerals on the lily pads and placing a matching number of frogs on each one.

FROGGY STORY
Make up a story about a frog and his or her adventures. Start telling the story to your children. Whenever you say the word "frog," pause and have the children call out "Ribbet!" Continue your story as long as interest lasts.

HOPPING FROGS
Let your children pretend to be frogs and try one or more of these activities.
Hop from one lily pad to another drawn with chalk on a sidewalk.
Hop through an obstacle course made of cushions and carpet squares.
Play Leap Frog by hopping over partners or small pillows.

FROG SEQUENCE CARDS
Display picture books about frogs, and talk with your children about the frog's life cycle. Make a set of cards that illustrates the frog's growth: Egg; Tadpole; Tadpole changing into a frog; Full-grown frog. Mix up the cards and invite your children to arrange them in the proper sequence.

FROGGIES, FROGGIES IN THE POND
Tune: "Mary Had A Little Lamb

Froggies, froggies in the pond,
In the pond, in the pond,
Froggies, froggies in the pond,
Listen to their song.

Ribbet, ribbet, crick, crick, crick,
Crick, crick, crick; crick, crick, crick.
Ribbet, ribbet, crick, crick, crick.
Hear us sing along.
Liz Ryerson

Let your children work their Froggy Puppets, above, while singing.

FROGS ON A LOG
At snack time, make a "log" for each of your children by stuffing a piece of celery with peanut butter or soft cheese. Then let the children top their logs with green peas or diced green bell pepper pieces for frogs.
