GOLD / SILVER

GOLD AND SILVER COLLAGES
Give your children gold or silver paper plates or cardboard squares covered with gold or silver wrapping paper. Set out gold and silver collage materials, such as tinsel, sequins, curling ribbon, stickers, baking cups, foil scraps, and glitter glue. Invite the children to choose materials and glue them onto their paper plates or cardboard squares to create sparkly collages.
RINGS ON OUR FINGERS
Help your children trace around their hands and wrists on pieces of construction paper. (Encourage them to spread out their fingers while you do the tracing.) Let them use gold and silver metallic pencils or pens to draw rings and bracelets on their hand tracings. Then set out such materials as gold and silver star stickers, sequins, and tiny pieces of foil or ribbon to glue on their jewelry for decorations. Or give them glitter-glue pens to use for adding sparkle.

GOLD AND SILVER SORT

Give each of your children a piece of paper folded in half and set out torn scraps of gold and silver wrapping paper. Invite your children to sort the pieces by gluing the gold scraps on one half of their papers and the silver scraps on the other half.
Collect a number of walnuts or large pasta shapes. Paint half of the items gold and the other half silver. Mix up the items and let your children sort them into two bowls.

GOLD AND SILVER STARS
For each of your children, attach several gold and silver star stickers at random all over a piece of plain white paper. Set out gold and silver metallic pencils or pens. Then invite the children to draw gold lines on their papers connecting the gold stars and silver lines connecting the silver stars.

GOLD AND SILVER STORYTIME

Select several gold and silver holiday ornaments or other objects and place them in a bag. Sit in a circle with your children and start telling a story about the ornaments. Then let each child in turn remove an ornament from the bag and name its color. As they do so, incorporate the ornament into your story. Continue until everyone has had a turn.

GOLD AND SILVER SEARCH
In various places around the room, hide both gold- and silver-colored items, such as large jewelry pieces, silverware, or safe holiday decorations. Set out one box covered with gold paper and another box covered with silver paper. Then invite your children to search for the items and place them in the matching colored boxes.

GOLDEN RIBBONS

Tune: "Frere Jacques"

Golden ribbons, golden ribbons,
See them shine, see them shine.
Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle,
Glitter, glitter, glitter.
Oh, so fine; oh, so fine.
Silver tinsel, silver tinsel
See it shine, see it shine.
Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle,
Glitter, glitter, glitter.
Oh, so fine; oh, so fine.
Liz Ryerson

Continue singing about other gold and silver items.

SNACKTIME SPARKLE
Check a local supermarket or kitchen store for gold and silver foil baking cups. At snacktime, fill the cups with small food items, such as raisins, cereal pieces, or mini pretzels. Place the cups on small plates to serve.
