THANKSGIVING DAY MUSICAL

A Thanksgiving Day Musical Story
By Jean Warren

Sung to:  “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again”

[Children are divided into two groups, the Pilgrims and the Indians.
The children do the actions, while an adult does most of the singing.
This musical can be done with no props or props galore, you decide.
Let your children help make prop and action decisions.]

PILGRIMS MARCH IN
Everyone sings:

The Pilgrims are coming into town, hooray, hooray!
The Pilgrims are celebrating Thanksgiving Day!
They bring corn and potatoes, too
They bring pies and Hunter’s stew.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that they could come today.

INDIANS MARCH IN
Everyone sings:

The Indians are coming into town, hooray, hooray!
The Indians  are celebrating Thanksgiving Day!
They bring turkeys and fish, galore.
They bring berries and lots, lots, more.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that they could come today.

CHILDREN FORM A CIRCLE
Everyone sings:

Everyone is here at last, hooray, hooray!
Time to celebrate - this special day.
We circle ‘round and all sit down.
We share the food, they made or found.
Oh, we’re all so glad and thankful for this day.

Our meal is over, our stomachs are full, hooray, hooray!
This is the very first, Thanksgiving Day.
We give thanks for our feast,
Then pass ‘round a pipe of peace.
Oh, we’re all so glad for the friends we made today.

The day is almost over but we stay and play.
We light a fire and dance – the night away.
Some play drums, some sing a song.
Some just clap or hum along.
Oh, we’re oh so glad on this first Thanksgiving Day.

Now the party’s over and we all must go.
We grab our baskets as – the sun sinks low.
We stand and shake each others hands.
We pray for peace across this land.
Then, we all go home – on this first Thanksgiving Day.
