PETER, PETER PUMPKIN EATER
(a shape story)

Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater
Had a mouse but couldn't keep her.
He put her in a pumpkin shell
That she just loved, you could tell.

He carved her triangle windows
And a great big rectangle door.
He gave her a square rug
To put upon her floor.

He carved a circle skylight
So she could see the sky.
Then he made her a diamond kite,
That she could fly up high.

She was so very happy
With her pumpkin home,
Peter's little mouse
Never more did roam!

You can make a fun felt board activity using this poem.
Cut out felt shapes for the pumpkin and the mouse.
Next, cut out felt shapes for the other objects mentioned in the story.
Have your child add the shapes to the pumpkin as you read the story.
