HEY, JOHNNY

                                                      A Johnny Appleseed Rhyme Story
                                                      By Jean Warren

Johnny saw a seed  -  lying on the ground.
He made a small hole  -  and pushed it way down.
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
Do you think  -  your seed will grow?

Johnny’s seed sprouted  -  tiny green leaves,
Then it grew and grew  -  into a big tree.
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
On your tree,  -  white blossoms did grow.

They looked so pretty,  -  they smelled so sweet,
But eventually, they  -  all fell to his feet!
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
On your tree,  -  white blossoms did grow.

First they were green,  -  then big and red.
One fell off  -  and hit his head!
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
From your seed,  - apples now grow!

Johnny took an apple  -  and held it in his hand.
Then he started on a journey  -  across this land.
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
If you had more seeds,  -  more apples could grow!

Johnny bit his apple  -  then looked inside.
He found more seeds  -  what a big surprise!
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
Now you can plant seeds  -  wherever you go!

Johnny roamed the country  -  and people say,
He planted seeds -  all along the way.
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
Because of you,  -  more apples now grow.

So when you see an apple tree -  wherever you go,
Think of Johnny Appleseed,  -  who lived long ago.
Chorus:  Hey, Johnny!  Hey, Johnny!  What do you know?
From one little seed  -  millions now grow!
