GROUNDHOG PATTERN ACTIVITIES
GROUNDHOG PUPPET
Using the medium sized pattern, cut out a brown construction paper groundhog shape for your child.
Give him a craft stick to tape to the back.
Let him draw a face on the front with marking pens.

GROUNDHOG PICTURE
Using the large sized pattern cut out a large groundhog shape for your child from heavy white paper.
Before starting the project, wash some used coffee grounds and air dry.
Give your child some glue in a bowl and a small brush.
Have her brush the glue across her groundhog.
Next, have her sprinkle on the coffee grounds to color her groundhog.
Give her small felt eyes to glue on.
This can be hung up as is, or you can have your child glue or tape it on to a colorful background.
VARIATION: You could also just let your child spread some glue onto the pattern sheet and then sprinkle on the coffee grounds.

GROUNDHOG'S HOLE
Cut the middle out of a paper plate.
Let your child spread glue on remaining rim.
Then sprinkle on some clean used coffee grounds
Use the "hole" with the Groundhog Puppet from above.
VARIATION: Instead of using the coffee grounds, just let your child color the rim of the paper plate with a brown marking pen.

LITTLE GROUNDHOG

Tune: "Kookaburra"

Little Groundhog sits
In his home all day.
Wishing that winter
Would go away.
Go - ice and snow.
Go - winds that blow
Let Little Groundhog play.

Little Groundhog sits
In the sun all day.
Wishing his shadow
Would go away.
Go - ice and snow
Go - shadows that show
Let Little Groundhog stay.

FOUR LITTLE GROUNDHOGS
Using the small patterns, cut out four brown felt groundhogs and place them on a felt or flannelboard.
Recite the following rhyme and have your child remove the groundhogs, one at a time.

FOUR LITTLE GROUNDHOGS
- A Flannelboard Story

Four little groundhogs, playing by the tree,
One ran off, then there were three.

Three little groundhogs, with fun things to do,
One ran off, then there were two.

Two little groundhogs, playing in the sun,
One ran off, then there was one.

One little groundhog, now all alone,
Got so lonely, he ran back home.
