GINGERBREAD PATTERN ACTIVITIES

GINGERBREAD COOKIES
Using the small or medium pattern, cut out three tan or brown gingerbread cookie shapes for your child.
Give her a piece of gray or silver paper to represent a baking sheet.
Have her glue the three cookies on her cookie sheet.

If you want, let her add some glue to the top of each cookie and sprinkle on some cinnamon.
Older children may want to decorate their cookies with markers and rick-rack first.

Enjoy the rhyme below with your child.

GINERBREAD COOKIE RHYME
Gingerbread cookies, yum, yum, yum.
I think that I will bake me some.

Gingerbread cookies, one, two, three.
One for you and two for me!

GINGERBREAD MAN PUPPET
Using the medium pattern, cut out a gingerbread man from brown paper.
Let your child add buttons or "wiggle" eyes. Have her glue on a yarn smile.
Let her decorate with buttons and rick-rack.
Give her a craft stick to tape onto the back of the gingerbread man to make a handle.
Read the story "The Gingerbread Man" to your child. Encourage her to make her puppet run and run, as you read the story.

LARGE GINGERBREAD MAN PICTURES
Using the large pattern, cut out brown cookie shapes for your child.
Have him glue the shape onto a piece of colored construction paper.
Let him color on some clothes with marking pens.

WALL HANGING
Using the large pattern, cut out three or four gingerbread cookie shapes.
Fold each cookie in-half lengthwise and make two slits across the center of the cookie approximately 1" apart.
Let your child decorate each cookie by adding eyes and a mouth.
Next, get some 1" ribbon and lace the ribbon (from the back) out through the top slit and then back in through the bottom slit.
String the cookies down in a row to create a hanging you can place on a wall or door

FELT COOKIES
- A Color Game
Using the medium pattern, cut a cookie out of red, blue, green and yellow felt.
Place the cookies on a felt board and let your child remove the cookies one at a time as you recite the following rhyme.

Gingerbread cookies what a treat!
Now, it's time for me to eat.

First, I'll eat the one that's red.
I'll start by nibbling on his head!

Next, I'll eat the one that's blue.
I'll start by biting off his shoe!

Third, I'll eat the one that's yellow.
Umm, he's such a tasty fellow!

Last I'll eat the one that's green.
Do you think I'm awfully mean?
