HEART MOBILS
Using the large silhouette patterns cut out one large black silhouette of President Washington’s and President Lincoln’s head per child. |
Next cut out some large red hearts and set them out with the silhouettes along with some glue and glue brushes. |
Have your children glue the two heads on either side of a red heart. |
Hang the hearts down from the ceiling of your room so that they can be seen from both sides.
STAR FRAMES
Give your children one red and one blue paper frame. |
Let children decorate their frames with silver or white stars. (these can be with stickers or stamped on with white paint) |
Have children glue each silhouette on a piece of background paper and then glue their frames on over the pictures. |
FINGERPAINTING BACKGROUNDS
Have children finger paint with red or blue (or both) paint on a piece of finger painting paper. |
When dry, give your children large black silhouettes of each president to glue onto their paintings.
COIN PICTURES
Cut out medium sized circles from white heavy paper. |
Let your children take two circles and paint one using copper paint and one using silver paint. |
When dry, have children glue a medium silhouette of Lincoln on the copper circle (to represent a Lincoln penny) and a medium silhouette of Washington on the silver circle (to represent a Washington nickel). |
BOOK COVERS
You could glue the silhouettes on covers for books about Lincoln and Washington. |
Or you could do rubbings of the heads for a book cover.
SILHOUETTE RUBBINGS
Using the smaller patterns, cut out heads using light weight cardboard or tag board. |
Let your children take turns, placing the cutouts under a piece of white paper and rubbing a black crayon over the cutouts. |
PRESIDENT PUPPETS
Using the medium patterns cut out black paper silhouettes of each president for your children. |
Have children glue the heads on a large craft stick and use as stick puppets.
PRESIDENT’S BOARDER
Using the small patterns, cut out small president silhouettes from blue paper. |
Have your children help you glue the heads on a red boarder, alternating with star stickers. |
SILHOUETTE FRAME
Using the large silhouette patterns, cut out the two heads from the center a large piece of red or blue construction paper. |
You may need to use small nail scissors for this. |
Leave the rest of the paper intact and use it as a frame over a painting of a flag or a finger painting by the child. |
