DUCK PATTERN ACTIVITIES

DUCK NEST
Cut out duck shape from brown paper, using the medium duck pattern.
Have your child collect some dried grass and cut it into small two inch pieces.
Give your child a paper plate, some glue and a glue brush.
Have child cover the paper plate with glue and then cover the plate with the grass pieces.
Finally, have child glue the brown duck in the middle of the plate.
Extension: Have child glue brown feathers on the duck.

FEATHER DUCKS
Using the large or the medium duck pattern, cut out a duck shape for your child using brown or yellow paper.
Set out some brown or yellow feathers and some glue.
Show your child how to brush glue over the body of the duck shape and then how to place feathers over the body.

DUCK PUPPET
Cut out a medium sized duck shape using heavy paper.
Give the duck shape to your child to color or glue feathers on.
Tape a large craft stick on the bottom back of the duck to create a duck stick puppet.

DUCK BASKET
Cut out two medium sized ducks from yellow construction paper.
Give your child a small topless box with 2”-3” sides.
Have your child glue the two ducks to two opposite sides of the box.
Finally, give your child a 1” strip of paper to make a handle for the duck basket.
Note: These make great Easter baskets. Or smaller versions of this basket could be made using the small duck pattern and used as snack baskets for a party.

FLOATING DUCKS
Cut small duck shapes out of heavy paper.
Stick each duck into a square of Styrofoam, or glue a piece of Styrofoam to each side of the bottom of the duck.

Let your child have duck races with the ducks in the bathtub.

TEXTURE DUCKS
Use the medium sized duck pattern to cut duck shapes out of textured material.
Cut out duck shapes using two different patterns or colors of corduroy, felt, velveteen, seersucker, flannel, or other similar materials.
Mix up the duck shapes and have your child find the two matching ducks by feeling the different types of materials.

FELT BOARD DUCKS
Cut out five brown or yellow felt duck shapes, using the small duck pattern.
Cut out a large blue felt oval (pond) and place it on a felt board.
Have your child place one of the ducks in the middle of the pond.

Then, recite the following rhyme and have your child add ducks as indicated by the rhyme.

One little duck, swimming in the sun.
She called another duck to join in the fun.

Two little ducks, swimming in the sun.
They called another duck to join in the fun.

Three little ducks, swimming in the sun.
They called another duck to join in the fun.

Four little ducks, swimming in the sun.
They called another duck to join in the fun.

Five little ducks, swimming in the sun.
Waddled ashore one by one.

One, two, three, four, five!
