CHILD INVOLVEMENT IDEAS
Decorating Gingerbread Shapes - Pass out brown gingerbread men shapes and crayons. Encourage children to decorate their gingerbread man. Older children could decorate their shapes with rick-rack, felt and other material pieces. Large craft sticks could be added to turn the shapes into Gingerbread Men puppets. |
Decorating Gingerbread Cookies – Set out some different colors of frosting and some small candies. Give each child a large gingerbread cookies on a piece of waxed paper to decorate. |
Storytime – Be sure to take the time to read the story of the gingerbread man to the children. Allow time to let them act out the story if they wish. |

TAG GAME
Have the children play a tag game by first forming a circle. |
One child skips around the outside of the circle (the Gingerbread Man/or Woman). |
He finally tags someone and they both start running around the outside of the circle with the tagged player trying to catch the Gingerbread Man. |
As they run, the Gingerbread Man chants, “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man.” |
The Gingerbread Man is safe if he can run all the way around the circle and back to his space, before being caught. |
If safe, the Gingerbread Man goes around the circle again, tagging another person. |
If however, the Gingerbread Man is tagged before he gets back home, he trades places with the person he originally tagged and then that person becomes the Gingerbread Man. |
Continue until everyone has had a turn or while interest lasts.
