Glitter bottles are fun for children to make during the holidays. They are a creative project, a soothing project and best of all they can be a discovery project.
|
For this project you will need:
- Small clean liter soda bottles.
- Water
- Food Coloring
- Mineral oil
- Liquid soap
- Light corn syrup
- Collage Box – filled with small pieces of sparkly foil, glitter, sequins, metal confetti, small buttons, dots (made from punching circles out of colored acetate report covers), etc.
Have your child make three different types of glitter bottles and then compare the three bottles. |
#1 - Water Glitter Bottle
- Have your child fill a bottle three quarters full.
- Add food coloring and liquid soap, if desired.
- Then add various items from your collage box.
- Add top of bottle and secure with tape.
|
#2 – Oil Glitter Bottle
- Have your child fill a bottle three quarters full with baby oil (or vegetable oil).
- Then add various items from your collage box.
- Add top and secure with tape.
|
#3 – Light Corn Syrup Glitter Bottle
- Have your child fill a bottle three quarters full with light corn syrup.
- Then add various items from your collage box.
- Add top and secure with tape.
|
Now have your child experiment with these three different types of bottles.
- What happens when you shake each bottle? What differences do you see?
- What happens when you roll the bottles on the floor? What does the glitter do?
- Try tipping the bottles up-side-down. What does the glitter do? Which glitter falls the fastest? The slowest?
