DREAM CATCHERS

You can help your child make a simple dream catcher by using a paper plate.

Cut out the center of the plate.

Punch holes around the rim of the plate.
Have your child weave short pieces of yarn back and forth across the center of the opening.
If you have access to beads, have your child weave some into the yarn.
Tie a 12" - 18" piece of yarn to the bottom of the yarn frame. Let the ends fall down the front of the dream catcher.
Help your child fasten small feather to the ends of these two yarn pieces.
Additional feathers can be added to dream catcher if desired. If you used beads, the feathers can be slide into the beads easily.

Dream catchers can also be make by using an embroidery hoop. Take the hoop apart and have your child criss-cross yarn pieces across the bottom hoop. Then snap on the top. Decorate with feathers.

Hang your child's dream catcher over his bed. Native Americans tell us that dream catchers will filter out bad dreams and only let you have good dreams during the night. This would be a great time to discuss dreams with your child and ways to cope with bad dreams.

DREAM CATCHER SONG
Tune: "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" By Jean Warren

I'm going to make a Dream Catcher.
I'm going to weave it just right.
I'm going to add some bird feathers
And beads to make it so bright.

Dream Catcher, Dream Catcher
Catch my dreams that are bad.
Dream Catcher, Dream Catcher
Bring me dreams that are glad!

I'm going to hang my Dream Catcher
Over my bed to-night,
So I will have only sweet dreams
Until the morning is light.

Dream Catcher, Dream Catcher
Catch my dreams that are bad.
Dream Catcher, Dream Catcher
Bring me dreams that are glad!
