JAZZY
JACKETS |
|
Cut copy paper into large jacket shapes. |
|
Set out the jacket shapes and some marking pens. |
|
Encourage your children to make "jazzy" designs
on their paper jackets. |
|
|
JETS
|
|
Give your children some large and small craft sticks and
some glue. |
|
Show them how to make simple airplanes from the craft sticks. |
|
When their jets are dry, they can be decorated with marking
pens. |
|
|
JACK-IN-THE-BOX
PUPPETS |
You can help your children make simple
pop-up puppets, using straws, small styrofoam balls, small material
squares, and some paper or styrofoam cups. |
|
Have your children take a paper cup and turn it up-side-down. |
|
Then, using a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the middle of
the bottom of the cup. |
|
Have them turn the cup up right and stick a straw up through
the bottom of the cup. |
|
Next, have them lay a small material square (3" x 3")
across the top of their straw. |
|
Finally, have them place their styrofoam ball on top of the
material and over the end of the straw. |
|
Now, have them push the straw and the material into the ball. |
|
Using a black felt pen, help your children make two eyes on
their puppets head. |
|
Show your children how to manipulate their jack-in-the-box
up and down. |
|
Have your children use their puppet while they sing the Jack-In-the
Box song (at the Music Station). |
JAR TWIST
|
Set out some jars with different
sized lids. |
|
Mix up the lids. |
|
Let your children take turns finding and screwing on
each jars lid. |
|
JUMPING ON "J's"
|
Print out copies of the large letter J pattern. |
|
Have your children color the letters if you want. |
|
Don't cut them out. |
|
Cover the print out with contac paper, if you want
to be able to reuse them. |
|
Lay the paper J's across your floor (1-2 feet apart)
and tape them in place. |
|
Play a jumping game with your children. |
|
Have them take turns jumping from one J to the other
all the way across your room. |
|
DRESS-UP
Fill your dress up area with lots of items like:
|
Jackets |
|
Jeans |
|
Jerseys |
|
Jumpers |
|
JELLY
FISH
Bring in some books and pictures of jelly fish for your
children to explore. |
JET
CONTESTS |
|
Give your children 2-3 paper airplanes of different
designs. |
|
Let them experiment, throwing them. |
|
Which design seems to fly best? |
|
Which one goes the furthest? |
|
Provide paper, if your children want to attempt to make
their own jets to experiment with. |
JAR SOUNDS |
|
Set out some identical glass jars or glasses. |
|
Set them in a water table or plastic dishpans. |
|
Have your children experiment by pouring different amounts
of water into each jar. |
|
Then, have them lightly tap each jar with a spoon. |
|
Do they notice anything different about the sounds the
jars make? |
|
Why do they sound different? |
|
How can they make them sound the same? |
|
"J"
SNACKS
Here are some "J" food suggestions:
|
Jello |
|
J shaped cookies (look for alphabet cookie cutters) |
|
Jams and jellies |
|
Jellybeans |
|
Juice |
|
|
JACK AND
JILL
Don't forget to read and act out the nursery rhyme "Jack and
Jill Went Up The Hill" |
JOKES
|
Tell your children some simple jokes that they will understand. |
|
I would refrain form asking them to tell you jokes at this
age, because they will probably only remember inappropriate,
or not so funny ones. |
|
J WORDS
You may want to do a picture/word wall or letter book for the letter
J.
|
Do a grouping of nouns that start with J, such as; jeep, jet,
jar, jump rope, jelly, juice, jester, etc.. |
|
Then, do a grouping of descriptive "J" words (adverbs
and adjectives), such as; joyful, jealous, jolly, jittery, jumpy,
etc. |
|
"J"
WORD RHYME
How many "J" words can your children find in the following
rhyme? |
J WORD RHYMES
How many “J” words can your children find in the following rhymes.
|
JACK-IN-THE-BOX
Jack-in-the-box, jumped out of his box,
To see what he could see.
He saw some juicy jelly beans
And jam for biscuits and tea.
He saw some super sonic jets.
He saw some jazzy jeeps.
He saw a jolly jester
With jingles on his feet.
He saw a jet black jaguar
At the Jackson Zoo.
He saw jellyfish
And jumping kangaroos.

JELLY BEAN CHANT
Jelly beans, jelly beans, jumping all around.
Pretty jelly beans, that I found.
The red jelly beans, jumped so high,
I had to catch them in the sky.
The green jelly beans jumped so slow,
I had to catch the, way down low.
The orange jelly beans jumped from side-to-side,
I had to catch them as they jumped by.
The black jelly beans jumped so fast,
I had to wait and eat them last!

JOGGER BEAR
Jogger, Jogger, Jogger Bear
Entered a race at the fair.
He jogged past Jack.
He jogged past Jill.
He jogged past Jane,
And is jogging still.
He jogged past Jeff.
He jogged past Jan.
He jogged past Jim,
He just ran and ran.
He jogged past John.
He jogged past Joe.
He jogged past Jerry,
He really could go.
He won the race.
He was judged the best.
He won a jeep.
Then he drove home to rest!
