PLAYFUL KITTENS

FURRY KITTENS
Cut out 4-6” kitten shapes for your child out of white heavy paper.
Give your child some glue and a glue brush and have her brush glue all over her kitten.
Next, set out small pieces of fuzzy yarn.
Have your child cover her kitten shape with fuzzy hair.
Extension:  Add a large craft stick handle to make a kitten puppet.  Hold them up while singing kitten songs or reciting kitten rhymes.

KITTEN HEADBANDS
Cut out 2” x 18” strips of black paper for headbands.
Glue two black pointed ears on the headband to resemble cats ears.
Let your children wear the headbands while pretending to be kittens.

THE THREE LITTLE KITTENS
Read the story “The Three Little Kittens” to your children.
Bring in three sets of small mittens and let the children act out the story.
Place kitten headbands and kitten tails in your dress up area for children to use.

KITTEN DAY
Have children bring their favorite kitten toy to school.
Let children share a few fun activities with their kittens, like story or music time.
Place kitten headbands and kitten tails in your dress up area for children to use.

KITTEN PARADE
Let children dress up their play kittens with hats, scarves and ribbons.
Then have them carry the kittens in a mini parade around your playground.

KITTEN MOVEMENTS
Have your children pretend to be kittens
How do they move?
Can they be playful kittens, sneaky kittens, sleepy kittens?

FIND THE MOUSE
Hide a small pretend mouse in your room.
Let your children pretend to be kittens and search for the mouse.
Variation:  Hide multiple mice in your room, one per child, and let children hunt until they each find one.

CAT SNACKS
Set out small bowls of dry cereal for children to eat without using their hands.
Set out small bowls of milk for children to drink without using their hands.

KITTEN SONGS & RHYMES

KITTY, KITTY

Kitty, kitty,
Soft and white,
Likes to sleep
All through the night.

Wake up kitty,
It’s morning now.
Wake up kitty,
Meow, meow, meow.
              Adapted Traditional

I’M A LITTLE KITTEN
Tune:  “I’M A Little Teapot”

I’m a little kitten,
Soft and small.
I like to climb
Or chase my ball.

If you pick me up
And rub my fur.
You can hear me
Purr and purr!

SOFT KITTY

Soft kitty, soft kitty,
Soft ball of fur.
Soft kitty, soft kitty,
Purr, purr, purr.

I HAVE A LITTLE KITTY

I have a little kitty,
That’s so soft and pretty.
I think I hear her coming now.
I can hear her soft meow-
Meow, meow, meow, meow.
                       Adapted Traditional

HOW MUCH IS THAT KITTY?
Tune:  “Doggy In The Window”

How much is that kitty in the window?
The one with the long white tail.
How much is that kitty in the window?
I do hope that kitty’s for sale!

PLAYFUL KITTY

Little kitty, little kitty,
Playing in the sun.
Out comes a dog –
Run kitty, run!

PUSSY CAT

Pussy cat, pussy cat,
Where have you been?
I’ve been to London
To visit the Queen.

Pussy cat, pussy cat
What did you see?
I saw a monkey
Up in a tree.

Pussy cat, pussy cat
What did you do?
I bought a ticket
And went in the Zoo!
                 Adapted Traditional
