Toddlers love to push and pull things around the house and yard. Here are a few activity suggestions your children might enjoy. Help your child to observe the difference between pushing something and pulling it. Be sure to use the word “push” and “pull” when discussing their actions.
Large Box Push – set out a large box with all sides taped shut. Let your child push it around the room. Perhaps you could place something in the box that makes a noise as it moves around. |
Cars and Trucks – medium sized cars and trucks are great for toddlers to push around. Use masking tape on the floor or rug to make roads. |

PULL TOYS
Laundry Basket Pull – tie a small rope or ribbon through one of the baskets handles for a pull handle. Keep the handle short for safety purposes. Encourage your child to fill the basket with toy animals and give them a ride. Boxes and dish pans can also be used for this type of play. |
Blanket Pull – give your child a small blanket. Show him how to place one or two stuffed animals on the blanket, then by pulling one of the corners of the blanket, giving the animals a ride. |
Wagon Pull – small wagons are great for toddlers. Young children never seem to tire of loading, pulling and then unloading wagons. |
