MOTHER'S DAY

MOTHER'S DAY CARD
Give your child a piece of paper folded in half for a blank card. On the front, help him trace around his hand and write "Happy Mother's Day." Then invite him to decorate the card with crayons, markers, or stickers. Or give him glue and collage materials, such as small magazine pictures, yarn or ribbon pieces, and sequins, to use for decorating. To complete, write a dictated "I love you" message inside the card.

DECORATED NOTE CARDS
Select five small envelopes. Fold five pieces of paper in half and trim them to fit inside the envelopes for note cards. Invite your child to decorate the fronts of the note cards, using markers or rubber stamp prints. When she has finished, tie the cards and envelopes together with a pretty ribbon to give to Mom on her special day.

MOTHER'S DAY GAME

Take turns with your child playing "Mama Says" (instead of "Simon Says"). Start by giving directions for your child to follow, such as "Mama says tap your toe. Mama says touch your nose. Mama says hop on one foot." Explain that whenever you give a direction without first saying "Mama says," your child should not do the action. If he does, then have him trade places with you and start giving you the directions. Continue the game as long as you wish.

I'LL BE THE MOM
Let your child pretend to be the Mother while you take the role of the Child, and act out simple activities together. For instance, "Mom" might show you how to wash your hands, tie your shoes, or brush your hair. Or she might "read" you a bedtime story and tuck you in for a nap. Continue playing the game as long as interest lasts.

MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER

Mother's Day is a time to say thank you to Mom for all that she does. Encourage your child to show his thanks by helping with jobs such as these.
Dusting
Folding laundry
Watering plants

MORE MOTHER'S DAY FUN
Invite your child to celebrate the day with one or more of these activities.

Make up a story and tell it to Mom.
Sing Mom a real or made-up song.
Dance to music with Mom.

MOMMY, MOMMY, I LOVE YOU

Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"

Mommy, Mommy, I love you.
Yes I, yes I, yes I do!
You are sweet and oh, so fine.
I'm so glad that you are mine.
Mommy, Mommy, I love you.
Yes I, yes I, yes I do!

MOTHER'S DAY SNACKTIME

Sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and sugar on buttered toast.
Spread crackers with a favorite soft cheese.
Decorate graham crackers with frosting and sprinkles.
